Gloucestershire Exporter of the Year

Green Fuels Ltd is a leading manufacturer of decentralised facilities for the production of biodiesel from used cooking oil (UCO) and other feedstocks.

Green Fuels is the only biofuel company to hold a Royal Warrant of Appointment, to HRH The Prince of Wales as Suppliers of Biofuel and Biofuel related Equipment. The company was incorporated in 2003 and has remained privately owned by its founders; James and Colin Hygate.

During the past decade the company has provided equipment to customers in 50 countries, who together have an installed capacity of more than 400 million litres of biodiesel per year. This usage is offsetting approximately 2,500 tonnes of C02 every single day. In order to sell in such varied international markets the company has gained significant expertise in the intricacies of local market conditions, permitting, feedstock opportunities, incentives and customers for the fuel. Today 90% of the company’s turnover is derived from exports.

In 2013, a sister company ‘Green Fuels Research’ was formed to continue Green Fuels’ research into bio-aviation fuels and other biofuel related research. Earlier in the year Green Fuels Research was granted a patent for a low-cost, yet high performance, biojet fuel and is now working hard to commercialise the process and to gain a leading position in a market estimated to be worth some $15 billion by 2020.
